In recent months, shocking videos have surfaced depicting Israeli troops looting Palestinian properties in Gaza, echoing past atrocities such as the Nakba. However, it's not just Israel at fault; the European Union (EU) also plays a complicit role in the exploitation of Palestine.

Israeli forces have been seen brazenly stealing from Palestinian homes, reminiscent of historical pillaging during the Nakba. Additionally, Israel seeks to plunder maritime gas reserves off Gaza's coast, violating international law and Palestinian sovereignty.
Human rights organisations have rightfully condemned these actions, calling for the cancellation of gas exploration licenses and warning companies, including European ones like Eni, of potential legal repercussions.
The EU's involvement adds another layer of complicity. Despite its purported commitment to Palestinian rights, the EU's omission of a territorial clause in a memorandum of understanding with Israel and Egypt has facilitated the exploitation of Palestinian resources.
Furthermore, the EU's support for Israel's actions and its suspension of aid to Gaza only exacerbate the situation, fueling cynicism in the Global South about Western double standards.
It's crucial to recognise that both Israel and the EU are implicated in the exploitation of Palestine. Exploiting Gaza's natural resources could aid in post-conflict reconstruction, but it must be done with respect for Palestinian sovereignty and rights—a responsibility both Israel and the EU must uphold.
